How do I build a VIP customer segment in Klaviyo for my boutique?

Before building any segment, force a full data sync between Klaviyo and Shopify by going to Integrations, selecting Shopify, and clicking Sync. Wait up to thirty minutes before proceeding — building segments on stale data means your most recent buyers could be missing entirely.

For your top VIP tier, create a new segment under Lists and Segments with two conditions: placed order at least three times in the last 90 days, and SMS consent is true. Then build a rising VIP segment at two or more orders in 120 days, and a win-back segment for customers whose last purchase was over 90 days ago. Each tier gets a different offer level — 30 percent for top VIPs with early access, 20 percent for rising VIPs, and 15 percent plus free shipping for win-backs.

After building your segment, export the list and spot-check ten names against your Shopify customer list filtered the same way. If the counts differ by more than ten percent, you likely have duplicate profiles from customers checking out with different email addresses. Use Klaviyo's merge function to combine them — otherwise your best customer might be invisible to your segment because her order history is split across two profiles.
